We have come to the end of another quarter and year, so it is time to review the AIA portfolio.
The AIA newsletter aims to help people who want to be more active in their investing. I have always said that for the majority of people, the best thing to do is start dollar cost averaging into a low-cost world index fund and do it consistently and for a very long period. However, most people do not want to do that.
This newsletter is for people who want to be more active in their stock picking and investing to try and achieve market-beating returns. I use the S&P 500 index returns as my comparison to the portfolio as this is a broad-based index in which many passive funds are invested.
This quarter, we were able to match the S&P 500 almost exactly. The AIA portfolio beat the S&P by .01%. I would say the most significant contributor to our success this year was the uranium stocks, followed by the offshore service stocks.
